Improved web use of geodata
The development and use of web services in IT has changed fundamentally in recent years. Instead of using complex and specialized architectures such as SOAP, the focus is increasingly on lighter-weight REST(ful) solutions. The OGC has addressed these challenges and initiated a paradigm shift with the introduction of OGC APIs.
OGC APIs have several advantages: they facilitate the provision and use of geodata on the web as well as integration with other information services. These standards are based on the OGC web service standards (WMS, WFS, etc.) and define resource-centric APIs that rely on modern web development practices.
